Energy Connectivity In The Pacific: Planning Tools For Integrating Renewable Energies Into Island Grids

This course presents two tools - a Simplified Planning Tool and a Multi-Criteria Assessment Tool - that can be used to help design island grid systems that integrate high shares of renewable energy techologies.

Abstract

Island nations are uniquely and acutely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. They depend heavily on expensive, unreliable and polluting fossil energy systems. Using renewable energy technologies, island nations can reduce fossil fuel imports and costs and drive innovation regarding climate resilience and adaptation. In order to accelerate the energy transition, effective planning tools for integrating renewable energies into island grids are needed to design efficient and sustainable supply systems.
