Launched in June 2009, the APCICT Virtual Academy is an online distance learning platform. As part of the multi-channel delivery mechanism that APCICT employs in the implementation of its ICT for development capacity building programmes, the Virtual Academy aims to equip government officials, educators, and youth with the essential knowledge and skills they need to fully leverage information and communication technologies to achieve inclusive and sustainable development. The Virtual Academy consists of e-learning courses that cover an extensive range of ICT for development related topics.
Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders Programme” (Academy) is APCICT’s flagship initiative to equip government officials and policymakers with the essential knowledge and skills to leverage ICT for national and regional socio-economic development. Launched in 2008, the Academy’s comprehensive curriculum was developed in partnership with ICT experts from countries throughout the world. Currently, 11 Academy modules are available in 16 languages with new training modules and more translations underway to meet the ICT capacity needs of ESCAP member and associate-member States. The Women ICT Frontier Initiative (WIFI) flagship programme aims to promote women’s entrepreneurship in Asia and the Pacific through enhancing capabilities of women entrepreneurs in ICT and entrepreneurship so that they and their enterprises can become more productive, and hopefully grow and be sustainable so that they can actively contribute to community development as well as to the local and national economy. The WIFI programme was officially launched on 9-10 June, 2016 in Korea in a regional forum that examined the state-of-the-art of ICTD capacity building in Asia and the Pacific to develop the appropriate regional and national capacity development in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
